I am Mariann Edgar Budde, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington.
Before coming to Washington in 2011, I served as a parish priest for 18 years at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Minneapolis. Writing has always been a spiritual practice for me, and reading the writings of others. I’m grateful for the common spaces of social media, and also mindful that we are all surrounded by words and images than we can absorb. So when I write, I try, as the Quakers say, “to improve upon the silence.” In that same spirit, I invite you to take what is helpful and leave the rest.
